Sonya + Troy {wedding invite}

Blog posts have been very few and far between at The Blushing Teacup of late. That is because we welcomed a brand new teacup to our little family. Mabel June arrived at the end of March and the last five months have been spent getting to know our little girl. She is amazing.

Mabel six days old | Mabel five months old

I have managed to fit in a few wedding invite designs which has been a great creative outlet in my new role as a full time mum. Here is one of them. This wedding ceremony is going to be held on the brides (who happens to be one of my bestest friends) farm in the woolshed. With the reception at the local hall. I designed a simple monochrome design with the idea of it to be printed onto wood. Yeap you can do that!!

Phillipa + John {invite, rsvp and extra info}

I LOVED designing this set of stationery for our good friends Phil + John. When Phil said they were having a TopKåta tent at their reception, I nearly fell off my chair with excitement!!

So this became the concept behind the design of the wedding stationery.

Phil had seen some invites that had a timeline on them and wanted it incorporated into the design. Was a great way to add in a bit more illustration.

I also really love the colours. The rich plum and deep purples are really different from anything I have designed lately.

Phil and Johns fabulous day was about a month ago now and I cannot wait to see the photos.

Jess + Kyle {invite}

Blogs have been a little few and far between of late. I have been working on heaps of gorgeous designs, and looking forward to sharing them with you.

Jess + Kyle are getting married in the stunning Bay of Islands in two weeks time! Unfortunately we can't go as we have a little one due to arrive any day. Lucky it is something that good that is keeping us from going. I designed Jess + Kyle's save the date a little while ago, and we kept with this look and feel for the rest of the stationery.

I have recently finished all the others bits and pieces that will be part of their big day. I cannot wait to share these with you after these two lovelies say "we do".

Tina + Alistair {wedding invite + RSVP}

When a Scottish guy meets a Greek girl and decide to get married, it makes sense to incorporate both of these backgrounds in their wedding stationery.

Here is what I came up with for Tina and Al who have been an absolute pleasure to work with.

I received the most loveliest email back once they had them printed. It said:

"Stace they are the best thing we have ever seen!! We LOVE them"

It made my day!

These two tie the knot next weekend in Melbourne and I wish them all the best for their big day and their exciting future.

Leanne + Glen {wedding invite}

It has been a loooooong time since my last blog. And I have been working on so many projects that I need to share. But thought I would put this one up first.

This was my first invite I have designed using white digital printing. Yeap you can actually do this these days. You can't even imagine my excitement when I discovered my favourite local printer Paper Studio at The Copy Company has one of these printers.

Here is the final piece. Perfect for a rustic farm wedding.

Mel + Todd {wedding invite}

I have been a little slack at getting this one on the blog. Melissa + Todd are getting married in one week!! I have loved working with this bride and groom on all the little details of their wedding. It's going to be all sorts of amazing. Will definitely be sharing some of the photos afterwards.

I loved how this invite incorporated all the details in one concertina format.

Their sweet little logo was taken from their Save the date and will be incorporated into a few bits and pieces on the day.

Congratulations Mel + Todd, looking forward to celebrating with you both next week!!

Anicka + Nick {wedding invite}

Two words I love. Destination. Wedding. So good.

Anicka and Nick got married in Mykonos, Greece. How amazing does that sound? And I was privileged enough to design their invites for them. They wanted it to be summery and modern to really reflect their gorgeous destination.

Anicka had found a wrapping paper with some beautiful patterns on it that she wanted to incorporate into the design. This is what I came up with.

I also created another colourway of the design and left it blank so that Anicka and Nick's families could write little messages in Greek to accompany the invites. How much does that blue just make you think of Greece. Delicious.

Ana + Greg {wedding invite}

I am very, very excited to finally blog about this special invite. It has been a long time in the making, but it's finally here!!

After a secret engagement in Japan and then a surprise engagement party (AKA Ana's 30th Birthday), this couple set their date for January 2015 in beautiful Nelson, New Zealand.

I feel very honoured to be a part of the styling of this wedding and cannot wait to celebrate their big day with them! Bring on January!

This is how it arrived.

Ana and Greg are some of the styliest peeps I know and really appreciate clean, crisp design. This is where I got the inspiration for the geometric pattern. Ana's love of stripes also had a helping hand. I can't wait to adapt the design to all the different elements of the day. Watch this space!

Ana is Macedonian so the swing tags have both the Macedonian and English names of all the guests. And this is what it looks like unfolded. Notice the tiny portrait of their Miniature Schnauzer Ralph in the bottom right hand corner. Too cute.

Stationery design

Designing wedding stationery is a great passion of mine. It's really important to me when creating an invite for a couple, that the design truly reflects them and gives a sneak peak as to what their day is going to be like.

I was anxious about creating my own stationery for our wedding back in December 2013. I had so many ideas, had seen so many amazing invites and just didn't know if I was going to be able to make up my mind. But, surprisingly, it all come together quickly. The key was I knew the client (Me and Mark), I knew what we liked and what means the most to us. This is my strategy for creating the perfect invite.

I began with the Save the dates.

Then came the best part, the invite.

We got these printed on a tea towel, a great keepsake
for our guests. Photo by Jill Andrews Photography.

Followed by the extra info booklet.

We also sent these out as a PDF attached to an email.

Details from the save the dates and invites were carried through to the Big Day. At the ceremony we had cocktails served in cream bottles with little swing tags draped around the neck.

Coral spotted straws complemented the swing tags and even the cocktail colours
were in theme too. Photo by Jill Andrews Photography.

At the reception we used the hall message board to welcome our guests.

Our silhouettes were a design element that we used throughout the day. I was
inspired by a tiny ink portrait of a woman we worked for in the UK. It is
amazing how a simple outline can look exactly like us!

The place names and the menu cards were incorporated into one card.

These napkins are available for hire. Get in touch.

And finally, when it was all over and done, the Thank you cards. I created a concertina showcasing some of our favourite shots (by Jill Andrews) from Our Big Day. A link to the short video we created was at the bottom of the spot where we wrote our messages of thanks.

If your big day is coming up, and you want some fabulous invites that represent the two of you, please get in touch.

Tamara + Mike

I have just returned from New Zealand after two weeks of weddings. Amazing. Best excuse to go home for a holiday if I ever heard one. One was my beautiful best friend Tamara and her now-husband Mike's big day.

I had the honour of being Tamara's matron of honour as well as designing their wedding stationery. Tamara is a curator at Sanderson Contemporary Art Gallery in Auckland and art is a big part of her life. Amazing works cover the walls of her and Mike's home and she wanted to include this in their invites. Since high school she has been obsessed with the Renaissance, so it was fitting to have two paintings from the era as the main feature. The design of the invites continued through with the rest of the stationery.

The day was a true tribute to the happy couple. Tamara who is mad on fashion had not only one fabulous dress, but two!!! And Mike who is a musician had ensured the day was filled with music which included 4 different bands playing throughout the day. The favours were these cute ceramic ornaments (see top right in the photo above) which Tamara had been collecting over the last 12 months. Mine was a little lamb. Love it.

I wish Tamara + Mike all the happiness in the world and look forward to the next chapter of their life together.

Tea towels as art

I have ticked off another post-wedding to-do. Framed our tea towel. And it looks FAB!!

I was at the Supergraph art fair a couple of weeks ago and spied at the Frankie exhibit some tea towels that had been framed in a really unique way. So enquired about them and was introduced to WILMA framing.

Got in touch and voilà our beautiful tea towel is now a piece of art.

If you need any framing done, I couldn't recommend WILMA enough. The frame is made of Tasmanian Oak with a two-tone finish. So it looks white when looking straight at it, but you see the natural timber from the side. Gorgeous.

Kate + Evan

I had the privilege of designing this wedding invite for Kate + Evan. They tie the knot in just a few weeks. I cannot wait to see photos of this wedding as I know it will be amazing!! Both of them are so clever and creative. Their home is filled with treasures they have found, then spruced up with a bit of DIY, and the result, a masterpiece.

You may remember a post from a few years ago when we had a girlie weekend at Kate + Evan's home on the peninsula. Kate is the queen of op-shopping and garage sale hunting and I just know their wedding styling will be to-die-for.

The photo is of Kate + Evan's favourite tree from the area where they will get married. I added a bit of a vintage look to it to encapture their love of all things pre-loved.

My obsession for weddings has not let up after Our Big Day. I love designing invites, so if you are after a designer for yours, please get in touch.

Sarah + Patrick

I have recently finished working on this gorgeous invite for a lovely couple, Sarah and Patrick. They live in Sydney, Australia and getting hitched at Sarah's parents home in Havelock North, New Zealand.

They came to me wanting a rustic and nature inspired invite to reflect their wedding day. The minty green with a touch of coral looks fabulous on the brown card, and the twine that ties all the bits together just finishes off the look.

I really enjoyed working with these two as they had so many ideas of what they were after, and it was so nice to see it all come together.

Our Big Day tea towels

Our Big Day is approaching very quickly. 6 weeks to go!!!!! Eeeeeeeeeeeeee (excited/nervous squeal). I have been having a lot of fun working on the details of the wedding. We are having the ceremony in the garden of my child hood home, overlooking the family dairy farm with the reception just round the corner in the local hall.

Being a graphic designer, one of my favourite things has been designing the invites and all the stationery to go with it.

Thought I would share some pics of our wedding tea towel. Yeap, you heard right, a tea towel.

Going with the 1920's theme I went with an elegant Art Deco style design. The monogram at the top has filtered through to the rest of our stationery. I used a few different type faces following the style of the 1920's and added a few little quirks.

We chose orange for the print, as this went with our Sun burst theme or coral, orange yellow and a hint of minty green. They were folded up, then tied with white paper string and a yellow swing tag with the name of the invited hand-written on it. Then they went into a cellophane bag with pink and white washi tape to secure it shut.

We have had a lot of lovely feedback from our guests. A few comments included, 'Can we use it?' 'We won't forget the date' and 'It arrived just in time for spag bol tonight.'

Designing invites for my clients big day is my favourite thing to do. So if you are after a designer for yours, please get in touch.

Will be posting more wedding details after the Big Day, so look out for them.
